Metal Carports

Metal CarportsIf long-term shelter is needed for one or more vehicles, metal carports offer the right amount of strength and coverage. Fully made out of steel, metal carports have a valance style, although it can be modified with side walls or a gable enclosure kit. Nevertheless, metal carports are some of the strongest portable shelters on the market, and most come with a 20-year warranty.

A typical metal carport is constructed out of two durable parts: a galvanized steel frame and a 29-gauge steel roof. A carport, by design, needs to keep water and UV rays away from any vehicles or investments underneath and, at the same time, must hold up to the elements. While the 29-gauge steel roof naturally protects against UV exposure and water damage, the full structure is resistant to rot, rust, termites, and fire.

As one of the most sturdy portable shelter available, metal carports hold up to high winds and heavy snow - but only if anchored correctly. As the structure is being installed, its frame must be secured into or onto a surface, be it the asphalt or gravel of a driveway or the grass and dirt of a yard or field. Anchor kits are helpful for securing a metal carport into the ground, but if the structure is to be needed year round, setting the frame in cement for full strength is advised.

Nearly any investment requiring daily, seasonal, or long-term protection can be kept under a metal carport. Typically, cars are kept under such shelters, but practically any other vehicle or investment can, as well. For long-term shelter, consider a metal carport for storing an RV, boat, equipment, or a combination of such investments. But, while the open frame of a valance carport is ideal for pulling in or going out each day, a vehicle kept for several months underneath needs full coverage. To offer this, a metal carport can be modified with side panels or fully enclosed through a gable kit.
